So you like the workplace disaster songs, I guess. Right on. -Slaid
Hey Slaid and Karen, I’m sure you guys don’t remember, but when I was a kid (probably around 2006 or 2007) I got the chance to play and sing breakfast in hell for Slaid outside of the venue in Dunsmuir, California for Slaid on my guitar and it was an experience of a lifetime for me. I got to see you play in Sisters, Oregon last weekend and it was a long time over due. It was an amazing show and I can’t wait to see you play again! Your music has been a part of my life since I was about 7 years old and you have helped me through a lot of hard times and you’ve taught me a lot about my own musical process. Thank you for all you do for folk music!
Well, that sure is fun to hear. You'd think I'd remember such a unique event, but I'm afraid it's all a big blur at this stage. Thanks for taking the time to write - it's so good to hear that my music is doing some good out in the world. Cheers, Slaid
Just wanted to say, on Wishbones from Sorrow and Smoke, one of my favorite parts is when you say Holly that stand has a little knob on it to adjust (or something similar) but the best part is when you say " or we could just get down on our knees and play, whatever you like" Brings a smile to my face when I hear that!
Ha! That's "Ollie" actually - Oliver Steck on accordion and trumpet and harmonica on the live album. For some reason he wasn't adjusting the microphone stand between songs (and instruments), just bending over when switching from accordion to trumpet, etc. Ollie is a master of physical humor - he even went to clown college.
Hello, we are looking forward to seeing you again in Nevada City next Wednesday, the 22nd. I know last year you would take some requests for the performance. Not sure if you're still doing that, but would like to suggest a few of my favorites if you are:
No Angel Knows-- has to be my favorite, although it is hard to pick just one!
Drunken Barber's hand
To be held
Texas top hand
I know that's quite a list, if you're able to play any of them, that would be great. Thanks much and we'll see you Wednesday.
Hey Lonna, Thanks for checking in. I will try to get all those songs into the list for Wednesday. (Except maybe the big yodel song - that one's been hurting me lately!) -Slaid
Slaid - Have you stood on the bridge at the Fish Hatchery on the Metolius River near Sisters ? The color(s) of the river where it flows through a trough in the basaltic bed
are of the "Only Here" variety. If Hwy 242 wasn't closed, the Dee Wright Observatory
at McKenzie Pass is an awe-inspiring place as well. Also, Clear Lake is stunningly unique. Fantastic memories, like the kind your performances generate. And here I sit
in lovely Birmingham !! Peace and love, Charles
Hey Charles, thanks for those local tips. If we had a day off between shows we might have time to check them out, but alas, we are passing though Sisters rather quickly this time. Cheers, Slaid
Ooh, it's been a while since I did that one. I better google the lyrics right now and get going on relearning it. Cheers, Slaid
Hi Slaid - Longtime fan here, looking forward to seeing you in Portland OR again, caught you guys there last time - one of the best concerts ever! Sent you drinks and requested "Breakfast In Hell"! This time I'd love to hear "Quick As Dreams", dedicated to our horses Farley & John Henry. ... or "Below", dedicated to my husband Chris (his favorite)... and I'm kinda partial to "Lydia" (how could I not be!). We'll see you Thursday night at The Old Church , can't wait. Be safe and have fun until then... Hi to Karen too.
Lydia (and Chris) Bosley - LFBosley@Q.com - Logsden, OR 97357
Hi Lydia, You sure do like the workplace disaster songs, don't you! I will try to get those songs into the set list for Thursday. Appreciate you coming back for more. -Slaid
Hi Slaid (and Karen),
Sorry we've been out of touch for so long (years and years).
Our Christmas card bounced back so we think you've moved. Hope you are well.
We're still near Cleveland, Ohio. Some job changes recently; but doing okay.
Greg Howe and Sandy Werner
Hey Greg and Sandy,
So good to hear from you - it's been a long time. We are well, rolling along through middle age, dealing with family stuff, etc, as I'm sure you are as well. I hope we can catch up next time we're passing through. -Slaid
Hey Slaid. I just discovered you on one of my daily mixes on Spotify. I'd like to see you on May 29th at El Mercado with John Inmon, yet, no tix on sale on your website. Are tickets necessary for this venue? Can you also confirm the location is: 1302 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704?
Lastly, please look at Buck's Backyard in Buda! I think you'd pull a great crowd out there. Its a fun spot and great for live music!
Hey Mairin - glad you found my music on Spotify. I'm pretty sure the 5/29 show at El Mercado is not a ticketed show. You might want to come early for dinner to make sure you can get in. And yes, South Austin location: 1302 South First. And yes, I've driven by Bucks - looks fun. -Slaid
How would I go about seeing if we could get you guys into Boulder, Colorado? There’s a wonderful venue called Chautauqua auditorium that would be a great place for Slaid to perform.
Let me know what I could do to help!
Thanks Larry. That sure looks like a nice place to play, but at a capacity of 1326 it’s a bit to big for us (10 times too big actually). If you know a place that’s more our size drop Karen a line and she will look into it: email@example.com. Cheers, Slaid
