I was wondering how you happened to write the song, "Below"? I have family from Flagstaff. I find the song very powerful. My grandmother, was born around the time the town was told, and grew up in the town, married and had children, all knowing that the town was going to be gone.
So I was just wondering about the song.
My friend from high school, Nicole St Pierre, sent me an article about Flagstaff in Down East magazine many years ago and said - You've got to write a song about this. I agreed, but didn't get around to it. So a couple of years later she wrote a bunch of verses and sent them to me. I came up with the melody and reworked the lyrics to fit into song form. I wish I had known your grandmother's story, as the idea of raising a family in the doomed town is so poignant - almost too sad!
I've spent probably a good hour of my life now trying to figure out what drone boots are. You mention them in the song Black T-Shirt. I'd love some insight!Slaid Cleaves responded on 11/20/2013 Next question
