Slaid Cleaves

Greetings Slaid, I'm an east Tennessean engaged to a girl from Austin (we spend a lot of time arguing about Davy Crockett, Sam Houston, brisket, and pulled pork). Maddie and I take turns visiting one another every other month, and it's my turn to head to Austin in a couple of days. My last couple of visits have taken on a bit of a Slaid Cleaves theme as we went to the Horseshoe Lounge and swimming in Barton Springs on New Year's day. Do you have any Austin recommendations for this time around (I think it's the chinese new year if that helps)? Thanks for your time and local wisdom, and we'll catch you in Asheville next month. Peace and good times, Christian

You could always join (or just watch) the dancers at The Broken Spoke. And some of my favorite stuff in Austin starts Sunday when the locals play their early-week residencies: Gospel Brunch at Stubb's or Strange Brew, Chicken Shit Bingo at Ginny's Little Longhorn. Sunday night is Resentments at Saxon and Heybale at Continental. Mondays are good too with Brennan Leigh at the Rattle Inn and Chris Gage at Donn's Depot. That should wear you out.
