Thanks so much for responding! I've actually been writing for a long time. I've played at many open mics and even some paying gigs. I actually played a benefit venue st the St. Lawrence arts center in portland. Do you know that place? Ive always told by friends and family that I should do something with my songs. Deep down, playing music is my dream. But even starting out writing or providing one of my songs for another artist would be amazing. I just don't know a safe venue to do that ya know?
I played the first ever benefit for the St Lawrence about 25 years ago. All the artists I know write their own songs. Getting someone to record your song is like winning the lottery. Do what you love: write, play. Good things will come.
Hi, My name is Clay. Im a fellow Mainer. Ive been a big fan for a long time. My friend gave me a copy of Wishbone years ago and Ive been a fan ever since. Im a songwriter, and have always wondered if my songs were actually any good. I write country, blues and folk/rock type stuff. My question for you is, is there a safe way to find an ear for these songs? Can you recommend anyone, or any place I should start? This is my biggest passion and Im just looking for a little direction. Thank you for all the great music youve put out there!!Slaid Cleaves responded on 04/27/2015 Next question
Ok, a boots on the ground approach. I dig it. I guess my last question for you is, if I sent you some if my recordings and you liked what you heard, would you ever need an opener at any of your venues?Slaid Cleaves responded on 04/27/2015
