Hello Slaid, not a question but a comment. Listened to your interview on Joe Pug's The Working Songwriter podcast recently and really enjoyed hearing your experience. Especially enjoyed that you pursued being "apprenticed". I think that's a missing ingredient to so many musicians' endeavors. I'm really grateful for the folks who have given me some wisdom in my short time in this bizz. Thanks for sharing your story on that podcast. Hope to see a show sometime soon!
Indeed Brent, it takes a village. I love Joe's podcast. Thanks for writing. -Slaid

You broke my heart all over again this afternoon. Your “Voice at Midnight” is on my go to playlist.... thought I had it together this afternoon but tears stream down my face. In our small, small town, we lost a coworker and friend this past weekend. Near midnight, on a frigid, clear skied night, he died, poplar trees stark against the moon and wind, snowmobile scattered across the snow, held in the arms of his father and friends. We are at a loss. All that’s left is the whirlwind of friends, neighbours and family around his wife, son, daughter and new baby. Desperate to put the pieces back together as futile as that is. And then, in the midst of the busyness, your song slices through, our hands stop and there’s nothing to be done as the grief rushes up against us, again.Slaid Cleaves responded on 03/08/2019
